Evgenia Arbugaeva will present two of her captivating stories at The Half King Photo Series on May 3. One of these stories, Weather Man, takes us into the home and solitary life of Vyacheslav Korotki, a meteorologist who records the wind, snow, and temperature patterns of an extremely remote Arctic outpost. The other, Tiksi, is Arbugaeva's return to her childhood home, which her family left when she was eight. Tiksi revists, and re-looks at a place that lived within her as the setting for early childhood memories.

EVGENIA ARBUGAEVA is a freelance photographer who was born in 1985 in the town of Tiksi, located in the Russian Arctic. In 2009, she graduated from the International Center of Photography’s Documentary Photography and Photojournalism program in New York. In her personal work she often looks to her homeland—the Arctic—to discover and capture the remote worlds and people who inhabit it.

Among the competitions Arbugaeva has won are: the ICP Infinity Award Young Photographer category (2015), the Leica Oskar Barnack Award, and the Magnum Foundation Emergency Fund Grant. She was selected as one of the PDN 30 New and Emerging Photographers to Watch. Her work has been exhibited internationally and has appeared in such publications as The New Yorker, Le Monde, and National Geographic, among others.
